SHAKE YO HIPS GIRL CAUSE THIS HAWAIIAN DOESN'T DANCE!
Nearly everyone I meet sooner or later finds out that I'm from Hawai'i. Soon enough in conversation I'm always asked, "So, you dance the hula then?" To which I regrettably reply, "nope!" For what seems like a really looooong second is like a stab to my heart, however I always bounce back by saying this: "People from Hawai'i are known to have any of these 3 talents:
- They dance (any Polynesian dance will suffice)
- They sing (Blessed with a God given talent or Karaoke)
- Or They play an instrument (Ukulele of course popular, but actually any instrument is good enough)
And of those 3, I can do 2! I sing and play an instrument LOL"
Hopefully that'll suffice for anyone and give them a better understanding that just because I'm a local girl, doesn't necessarily mean I dance
(Always, no matter what, make YOURSELF look good and under any circumstance NEVER put yourself down)

Fake it girl. I actually started taking polynesian drumming and dance in college at UH so I can! I was also a music major so karaoke is my strong point as well lol... but people don't know the difference. Fake it. I went to see this drag queen here in NYC Candice Cayne. She use to be a He and was a lei greeter in Hawaii. Now SHE is famous. I was late to her show and she told the audience she is Hawaiian. When i walked in she said lets pick on the late boy.. and she said Iolani manoa kaimuki and the audience laughed.. (she must of made up something and used it in a joke). I responded "mililani leilehua Kaimuki!" and she went.. and he speaks hawaiian and this is my f-ing show so let's move on!
LOL to Billy's comment -- too funny! Love that saying...FAKE IT...gonna add it to my fun jargon ;)
